Woman with cake: in its very name, a play on words, it is possible to detect the double in this sculpture.

The cake represents celebrations, happiness just as much as the expression on the face of the woman carries the opposite feeling. Double is also in the face of the woman, in its not being simmetric.

The shape of the cake is absurd as it represents the need to put together the desire to reach out to others but also the difficulty of handling our bodies and our inner selves, something not always easy to do; the need to show who we are in our own specificity  and in our own (and shared) loneliness.

It stands for the clumsy attempt to free ourselves from and off the role imposed on us by society.

It is the body enclosed as it is in all the dymamics of everyday life, filled and impregnated of personal and collective events which shows its limits.

* Con-torta is a play on words as “con torta” litteraly means with cake, but it also means “contorta” as with the body in a strange position and it can also mean twisted as with a twisted mind.
